Here is another Bi-Monthly Top Reads. There were some really good books these past two months!

The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris: This historical fiction does such a great job in capturing a time in history that is sad and depressing, but gives a sense of hope for love.
What I Loved:
– the voice of protagonist was easy to follow and likable
– gives hope during a terrible time in history
– was based on a true story
– the abusive scenes were not graphic and easy to read through
– author includes how she met and spoke with the man who the story is based on

Bob by Wendy Mass & Rebecca Stead: Such a sweet and happy tale that I couldn’t help but feel happy thoughts as I read.
What I Loved:
– good combination of friendship and magic
– sweet characters
– good to use for inferencing with children
– the two perspectives were done well and were easily distinguishable

Thinking In Pictures: My Life With Autism by Temple Grandin: I love reading this non-fiction about a woman with autism. It brought flashbacks from when I taught children with autism.
What I Loved:
– tells a story of an amazing woman
– learned more about autism
– reminded me of my previous students
– was well-organized
– aside from some medical research, it was easy to follow

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty: Such a great suspense/mystery read. This is my second novel by Liane Moriarty and was one that was hard to put down!
What I Loved:
– kept me guessing throughout
– likable and relatable characters
– strong themes
– themes of bullying and domestic abuse were handled well
– great plot flow
– an exciting tale

Every Note Played by Lisa Genova: This book held such a sad/reflective tone throughout, which gave me strong emotions while I read.
What I Loved:
– the amount of emotions I felt
– characters felt real and relatable
– strong themes
– learned a great deal about ALS
– plot flowed well

Oh wow, The Tattooist of Auschwitz sounds really great! WW2 fiction is kind of oversaturated with books that cover similar topics, but the premise of this one’s pretty unique.

I really liked The Tattooist of Auschwitz! I actually never knew much about the person would tattoo those who enter the camps and found his story compelling. If you check it out, I hope you enjoy it!
