my review

For this book, like its previous one, I participated in a buddy read with one fellow booklover at

Though there were some exciting scenes, I found the overall plot to be a lot slower and lacking in development more so than the first one, especially toward the beginning. At different points, I was actually considering to drop this and not finish reading. The pacing and storylines were disjointed, and there were several plot holes. It almost felt as if the author just wanted to drag out the story for the sake of having a lengthy book. To add more fuel to the fire, I also did not understand the need to write in several chapters of random scenes that did not relate to any of the main characters and were never referenced again. Lastly, I did not appreciate in having unfinished storylines from the first book continued to be unfinished here and not advance the overall plot.

There were several characters I really enjoyed and was glad they made a return in the second book, but they were unfortunately lacking in development. No one really grew throughout and there wasn’t much background given to any one. The lack of character development was not only frustrating, but it also made it difficult to feel much for them.

Overall, there were parts I enjoyed, but found much of the book to be less developed than it could have been. I do plan on doing a buddy read for the next one in the series with the same booklover hoping it will be better than this one!

My Rating2 stars

Perhaps those who read the first one will find some enjoyment in this book. Other than that, I would not recommend to start with this read.
