Blue-haired and artistic Karou has a different type of family and runs these mysterious errands. I mean, who would want to tell their best friend that they must meet strange people and collect teeth for their father, who happens to be a devil?
Her world is turned upside down when the enchanting Akiva approaches her and the two connect. However, one small act reveals the truth of their dark past. Who is the real Karou and what role does Akiva play? Come read their story in this exhilarating ride today!
These characters, I found, to be developed well and very likable. Karou is the type of person that I could see myself becoming friends with. She is kind, loving, and a great friend. Her confusion toward her family situation and with Akiva seemed authentic. I found Akiva’s tortured soul was portrayed and explained very well. In addition to the two protagonists, I love Karou’s best friend, Zuzana. She’s always patient, kind, reliable, and would a great person to have as a friend.
This was one of those reads that I simply enjoyed every time I picked it up. The writing flowed well, the suspense was built up in the right places, and the background building was on point. On the down side, there were some timeline issues. There was a period of time when the reader is taken into the past. While in the past, the plot jumps forward a bit, but then backward. A couple of times, there were even myths shared and they seemed almost out of place at first. Of course, they did tie into the story, but when presented almost out-of-the-blue, it through me off for a few moments. In general, though, I was able to follow the storyline for the most part and I did love the information presented.
One of the aspects that I really enjoyed was the romance. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that had such sweet and loving romance between two characters. In some ways, it reminded me of my first and only love (my now husband) and the beginning of our relationship. Though seemingly simple, the romance was something that made me smile while reading.
What a way to end the book, too! I’m super excited to continue on with this trilogy!
I would highly recommend this read for those who enjoy paranormal young adult romances. ❤
